Today is the day that the 2013 MINIs in the Mountains begins in beautiful Avon, CO. Registration is closed, but for those who signed up and are ready to go, you have an amazing experience ahead of you. Yesterday we told you where to stay, and today we’re giving you all the details for the Group Rides taking place Thursday through Saturday. So fill you MINI up with gas, grab some snacks and a driving buddy, and buckle up. You’re about to go on the ride(s) of your life. And print this blog as a guide for your trip!
Thursday, 9:00 am: Shutterbug Run to Leadville
- 37 miles (one way)
- 1 hour ride (excluding stops)

Important info: Follow along on the 1-hour ride, and then explore the historic town of Leadville on your own. You can head back to Avon at your convenience, but it’s suggested to visit the museums, antique shops, and the Turquoise Lake. For a Countryman adventure, head to the unpaved “Route of Silver Kings” for a bumpy, yet adventurous ride.
Thursday, 9:00 am: The Ride to Redstone

Important information: Lunch will be in Redstone (designated as a National Historic District) at The Crystal Club Café.
Thursday, 10:00 am: Gore Pass & Ice Cream Run

Important information: We’ll make an ice cream and gas stop in the town of Kremmling at Big Shooters Coffee & Ice Cream before returning back home.
Friday, 9:00 am: Rifle Falls Picnic

Important Information: Bring a picnic lunch, towel for drying after wading in the waterfall, and as flashlight for the caves. You can also bring folding chairs for the picnic. There is a $7 entry fee to the State Park.

Friday, 1:00 pm: Bellyache Ridge Ice Cream Run

Important Information: We’ll stop at the Cold Stone Creamery in Edwards for a quick ice cream break before heading back to Avon.
Friday 4:00 pm: Brewery Run

Important Information: We’ll hit all three of the Vail Valley’s microbreweries in one afternoon. We’ll take a quick jaunt down I-70 to Edwards for stops one and two, take a slightly scenic route to Eagle for stop three, and then it’s back to the Lodge in time for the Wine and Cheese Social.
Saturday 8:30 am: Sylvan Lake Breakfast Ride

Important Information: Leave the Christie Lodge and take US highway 6 to the town of Eagle for breakfast. After breakfast we take scenic Brush Creek Road to Sylvan Lake State Park. This ride has 4 miles of dirt road from the Ranger Station/Park Headquarters to the lake. The speed on this portion of the route is slow and the road is frequently used by passenger cars as opposed to SUVs. The “B” pin on the map represents the Ranger Station/Park headquarters. The road is paved and in good condition to this point. The “C” pin on the map represents Sylvan Lake, Camp ground and day use area.
Saturday 11:30 am: Redcliff Lunch Run (Mango’s Mountain Grill)

Important Information: This will be a (mostly) leisurely cruise to the town of Red Cliff, where we will enjoy lunch on the rooftop at Mango’s Mountain Grill. We’ll depart the Christie Lodge and head out of town on US-6E. This turns into US-24E, and we’ll drive through the town of Minturn before hitting some twisties and turning off into the town of Red Cliff. We will follow the same way back to the Christie Lodge
Saturday 11:30 am: Vail Ice Cream Run

Important Information: Last chance for Ice Cream! We will motor a short 9 miles to Vail and park in the garage. Then you will be free to wander through out the Village enjoying your ice cream or coffee. You will be on your own for the return trip.
